Getting Over the Hump

Have you hit your weight loss plateau?
Wellspring's experts give you five keys to crossing the weight loss stopgap.
- Eat 5 small meals per day. It is perfectly ok to eat foods that you love, as long as it is in moderation. The increased frequency will keep your metabolism in high gear, you will feel less deprived, and feel good knowing that you are consuming less overall calories.
- Eat fish or seafood 3-4 times per week. If you are one of the unlucky ones allergic to seafood, take 1 tablespoon of flaxseed oil or an omega-3 supplement daily (these being healthy fats, they are something that we should all consume more of and more often).
- Eat high-fiber, usable carbohydrate snacks like vegetables with fat-free dip, to control your rise in blood sugar. With seemingly everyone being on a high protein kick today, carbohydrates from vegetables are necessary for the body to use the protein that you take in.
- Eat enough. Wellspring recommends that an active, healthy woman, consume at least 1,800 calories per day. Active healthy men should consume at least 2,300 calories per day. Not taking in enough is a sure-fire way to lower that precious metabolism.
- Realize that as long as calorie expenditure exceeds calorie intake, and the metabolism is burning as it should, fat loss is probably occurring even when the body plateaus.
